DON'T BE LOCKED OUT AGAIN!Good padlock and door locks security are relatively trouble free for long periods of time, but are used frequently, so problems can occur. These once trusted residential door locks or commercial door locks, these may not perform as smoothly like they used to when new. The key may break or may not open the door. The cylinder may jiggle when the key turns. The key may turn but the bolt doesn't move. The bolt may not extend. The lock may even suffer vandalizism, be it with wood splinters, glue, chewing gum, etc.
Here are excellent sugguestions provided for making sure your're never locked out again because of faulty residential door locks or commercial door locks :
A) If the key will fit into your entry lock sets lock on a very cold day, thaw the lock with a hair dryer or a deicing spray.
B) If keys break off inside entry lock sets, lift up the broken end with a straightened paper clip, then remove the stub with small pliers.
C) If keys won't easily operate your Lever locks, deadbolt Locks, Knob Locks or even your
Padlocks, have a new key made from one that isn't as worn. You also can lubricate, the keyway with penetrating oil designed for locks or with graphite (never both).
D) If a key is difficult to turn and the key does not seem to be at fault, clean the lock and latch. Also make sure the cylinder is properly aligned.
E) If the cylinder moves when the key turns, tighten the screws that hold the cylinder in place.
F) If the key turns but the bolt or latch doesn't move, follow the steps for fixing the bolt.
G) If the bolt or latch doesn't extend, check the alignment of the strike plate.
H) If a locking button gets activated, on your lever locks or knob locks, you typically can unlock it with a straightened paper clip pushed in to the small hole in the center of the knob.
I) If a door scratches somewhere along the length of its latch edge, tighten any loose hinge screws.
J) If your deadbolt locks sticks or binds, check the hinges.
