A
Car Key Switch can be generally accessed by removing the plastic shroud around the steering column. It is recommended that the vehicle's battery be disconnected, as a precaution. The plastic shroud is usually held together with a few screws and molded snap-on tabs.
There are two commonly used Ignition Key Lock Cylinders assembly versions. Either the Lock Cylinder can be removed independently or the whole Car Key Switch assembly has to be removed from the column.
Automotive Car Locks Cylinders can be replaced independently by simply inserting a working key and rotating it clockwise until its active metal retainer can be fully depressed while a probe is inserted into the access hole, only then permiting that the lock cylinder slide out of its column.
A Car Key Switch assembly that must be removed completely from the steering column, is fastened by shear head bolts found usually at the top of the column. Once the shear head bolts are removed, by carefully tapping them with a pick, counter clockwise, the
Automotive Car Locks assembly will slide away from the column quite easily. But be carefull of the various wiring harness'! These can be tightly connected but can be safely unplugged from most Automotive Car Locks.
