Automotive Car Locks have evolved greatly since the mid 90's. Many
Ignition Key Lock Cylinders now use transponder keys commonly known as "electronic" or "chip" keys, and are quickly becoming quite prevalent throughout most automotive brands. Our quick fix tip is a temporary alternative repair to get your vehicle on the road when the key blade has been damaged or broken and a replacement key is not readily available.
A
Car Key Switch that accepts transponder keys, incorporate large plastic heads, usually semi-hollow, which contains the electronics to make this type of anti-theft system function. Many of these also include keyless remote functions. However, this large head design gives the car owner more leverage when turning the key thus causing the head to snap more frecuently from the metal key blade.
Utilizing both halves of the broken key, fasten or at least place the broken head portion of the transponder key onto the metal key blade. This should allow the anti-theft system to ignite the vehicle's engine and allow it to be moved where it can be properly serviced.
The distance between the head containing the transponder chip and the Ignition Key Lock Cylinders antenna ring, is crucial! Therefore, our tip may not work if the bow "head" of the key is not positioned just right or if the head is not attached in place.
Have no doubt that Automotive Car Locks technology will continue to evolve in newer and more complex usuage, making simple on the spot quick fixes, perhaps a thing of the past.
